Life Choices Or Life Chooses

What makes us who we are? Nature or Nurture, Free will or Fate?

We were both children once;
Innocent and wide eyed.
We climbed our own trees
And played our own games.
Yet we are here -
You're behind those bars
While I stand across them.
What did you do wrong?
Or what did I do right?
And when did we do it?
Or was it someone else?
Did he hold your hand or slap it away?
Did she sing you a song,
Like she did for me?
When did you grow up?
Was it before or after me?
Born of the same season,
Why is it autumn for you
While spring still sings in my home?
